What to Expect from a Massage at Abbinito
Massage is a wonderful treatment for tight muscles, temporary stress reduction, and maintaining general health and well-being.
"Swedish" massage incorporates gliding, kneading, vibration, compression, pin-pointed friction and percussive strokes along with therapist-assisted movements, and hot and cold treatments. Massage lotion, creme, or oil is used, which is great for the skin and allows for smooth relaxing strokes. The client is undressed to his or her comfort level and lies on a specially-designed massage table between sheets and a blanket. As with all types of massage, only the part of the body being massaged is uncovered at any one time and your safety and modesty is protected and considered at all times.
A Swedish massage is great for relaxation and general tension release. Focused work on specific areas of tension can be integrated into the session. This type of massage affects the body's circulatory system and assists the body in flushing toxins out. Drinking plenty of water before and after a Swedish massage is highly recommended to assist your body in this process. After a Swedish massage, clients report feeling "relaxed," "soothed," and "ready to sleep well tonight."
Tui Na has been practiced in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. Experts in Tui Na study for 7 years in China and work in hospitals treating all types of illnesses and imbalances. Amber's Tui Na treatment is offered as a 30-minute or 60-minute session and is a fun energizing treatment to give and receive. Clients wear loose comfortable clothing and receive the massage both in a chair and on the massage table. Joint movements are also incorporated into the session. Try a Tui Na treatment on your lunch break and feel refreshed and ready to tackle the afternoon.
Amber's deep tissue treatments are customized just for you. You can expect a more detailed intake interview, so allow an extra 10 minutes or so for your appointment. After gathering information about what ails you, Amber will design a treatment plan for you focusing on the area of tension and related areas as well that may be contributing to the issue. These sessions are very interactive as the therapist will be checking in frequently with you, asking about levels of pain and whether or not the current pressure is helping or hurting. Drink plenty of water before and after treatment. Some soreness may be present for several days after the session. Specific potential reactions, at-home stretches, and other recommendations will be shared with you after the session ends.
Seated or chair massage is especially popular in the workplace and at special events. Sessions are 15- or 30-minutes in length. In many cases, a specially designed ergonomic chair is used, but seated massage can be applied in practically any type of chair in any number of settings. Chair massage focuses on the neck, shoulders, upper back, chest, and arms. Scalp and facial massage may also be incorporated into the session if preferred. Basic stretches and movements of the arms, shoulders, and neck are an integral part of the session as well. The client is clothed, making chair massage another convenient and easy way to receive a massage.
If you are contagious with any type of disease or condition, you will need to wait until you are not contagious before receiving massage. If you have heart problems, osteoporosis, cancer, diabetes, a recent injury or surgery, or are pregnant, check with your doctor to make sure massage is safe and appropriate for you. If you have a condition and are unsure whether or not massage would be right for you, contact us. In some instances, we will ask you to bring a doctor's note to your session certifying that massage is safe for you. Also, we may ask you for permission to consult with your doctor about the benefits of massage therapy for you. In other cases, we may refer you to a different therapist or healthcare provider that may be able to better meet your needs.
